Culen belongs to the Otholobium genus, although for many years it was classified in the Psoralea genus. In fact most of the literature published prior to the early 1990s refers to culen as Psoralea glandulosa. In Brazilian herbal medicine systems culen is used for asthma, diabetes, fevers and to heal wounds.* For more information about culen please refer to the Database File for Culen in the Tropical Plant Database. Traditional Uses:* for fevers, colds, and flu; for other upper respiratory problems (bronchitis, asthma, etc); for psoriasis, vitiligo, wounds, and other skin problems; as a digestive aid for anorexia, indigestion, intestinal gas, etc.; for intestinal worms and parasites Suggested Use: This plant is best prepared as an infusion (tea): Use one teaspoon of powder for each cup of water. Pour boiling water over herb in cup and allow to steep 10 minutes. Strain tea (or allow settled powder to remain in the bottom of cup) and drink warm.
